Challenges 篇1

The tempo of modern civilization has been much quickened in the last twenty years. While witnessing the dramatic changes in the better-off society, people begin to reconsider the question of "survival". "Survival" in the old sense does not bother us anymore. Instead, we are more concerned about how to "survive" in the human world full of competition.

Competition always carries abreast challenges and opportunities to everyone involved. It might appear in an entrance exam, in a regular class, or in a small public speech. Those who fail to detect its real nature-whether an opportunity or a challenge a competition really is- will lose something more or less conducive to our growth. Of course, if we take the competition as an opportunity, we will favor it intentionally because they can help us outstand from the average; they will make us become the focus of public attention; they will grant us more chances and rights to succeed.

As a matter of fact, opportunities are supposed to be more perceptible and welcoming than challenges. The truth is, however, we will lose more opportunities when we choose to take the "opportunity" fork at the crossroads. The other fork, ignored by us and defined as "fearful challenges", offers much more chances for the walker in competition.

Challenges 篇2

The two things that you focus on are maintaining what you have now, thats good and growing, all right? What we have now is a pretty good utility. And then, going back to the first question that you ask me, whats the thing that I measure the most? Its that 70% of the people come back to the site everyday and making sure that that remains, not just because were doing some gimmicky things.

But I mean, if you launch a feature, obviously retention is going to go up. All right, so i mean, retention has been up recently because of the photos. But focusing on things that are sustainable and scalable, so that when we launch more schools or go into the next market or whatever we do, were going to set ourselves up to have the same success that weve had without hurting our self in the current position. Mark is incredibly good at keeping the bar very high on new hires. When youre quadrupling in size in terms of people, theres always a tendency.

You see it again and again and I know Tom Byers and many of you in the audience always talk about quality of people and maintaining the bar. But in practice, its really easy to say this person doesnt match up in there, but does match up along so many dimensions. It would take six months to find the right person. And Mark has been extraordinary, as a leader in maintaining a very high bar and at time walking away from people who are receiving outstanding recommendations, but either dont fit from a cultural stand point, or theyre not going to scale and theyd the wrong person a year or two from now.

And that is certainly, as an investor and board member an ongoing challenge. How do you deal with that trade-off where you absolutely need an ad sales force, but at the same time, its one person at a time. You just cant say lets go out and hire five good engineers or five good ad sales people and not have them be great. Because the B+ or A- people, you know it, theyll hire Bs and B minuses. And this is a time in the company where you just have to aspire with each hire to get an A or A+ person. And its easier said than done. I think that is one of the fundamental ongoing challenges.

Challenges 篇3

good morning, ladies and gentlemen. at present, my fellow students and i have before us great personal and educational opportunities. at the same time, we are running into a variety of challenges.

todays college education provides us with opportunities for bringing out the creativity and talent that we have within us. this is nurtured both by our learned professors, and by the growing dimension of knowledge sources, such as the world wide web and multimedia sources. our educational experience is being transformed both within and beyond the traditional classroom. however, challenges still exist.

at the end of every semester, students in my university are required to fill out a questionnaire as a review of the previous semester. the questions usually cover a broad range of college life, from curriculum adjustment to canteen service. and almost every time, the questionnaire includes one essential question, that is: as a college student, what are your major challenges? and almost every answer includes two aspects: studying and professional. these two challenges will remain our preoccupations as long as we live in such a competitive world.

a series of challenges in our studies start from almost the beginning of our freshman year. we may wonder whether weve chosen the right major. we may wonder if the extracurricular activities add credits to our studies. we may work our heads off to get a glorious a, because b is already mediocre and c is almost unacceptable. later on we may be competing with our hardworking, intelligent peers, including our best friends to get into an ideal graduate school. all of these sound so familiar and they have somehow made our college education so goal-obsessed that we sometimes fail to fully enjoy our educational experience.

apart from challenges in learning, there are also professional challenges. the competitive world today has also brought about the “knowledge economy,” which requires the effective use of knowledge for economic and social development, and also requires skilled and multi-oriented students with a marketable vocational sense. therefore, sophisticated calculations upon the value of a university degree are being made. graduate employability statistics are being scrutinized. programs like resume writing and interview skills are seen as a must. again as ive said above, when professional concern dominates our college education, we may lose the essence of our educational experience.

Challenges 篇4

Challenge yourself !

As we all know, life is full of challenges. Challenge to get into a good school, good college, good job, good position, everything. Some of them are long term, and are generally resolved as time passes. Some of them are short term, and need immediate attention, for example, to finish a very important assignment at school, or to get a job after graduation. Short term challenges create a sense of tension in us, and when they are achieved, we feel happy. They also keep us busy and minds occupied until they are resolved.

However, what happens when there are no challenges? There is no tension, the mind gets free. Then we start thinking about doing new things we like in this free time. We go on vacation, eat good food, watch favorite movies, go partying with friends. However, there is still a sense of boredom. When you tell this to other people who are fighting with problems, they laugh on you. There are no problems in our life, which starts becoming a problem. There is nothing to look forward to, no big mountain to climb. Life becomes predictable. We cannot figure out how to get the zing back in life (and creating problems is not the answer).

One solution is to create challenges for yourself, doing things that you always thought to be difficult or impossible to do. For example, playing a musical instrument, writing a poem, training for marathon, learning a new sport, or simply watching all the movies involving Woody Allen. These things may not be real challenges, but they surely brings hapiness back to the life when they are achieved. So whenever you think you are bored, take up something you have never done.
